Welcome

Kathryn Skelsey, the founder and principal practitioner of HealthArt Physiotherapy, is a mobile and telehealth physiotherapist with over 30 years' experience in the public hospital and private practice settings.

Kathryn is available for visits to adult or elderly people living in their homes or residential aged care facilities in the southern Sydney metropolitan area, for the care and remediation of their musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, neurological and metabolic conditions, injuries and disabilities. As a sole-practitioner, she is able to provide a dedicated, consistent and caring service to ongoingly meet individuals' needs for as long as they require.

Kathryn can also provide consultation sessions via telehealth (telephone or video conferencing) to people across Australia. This mode of delivery can be applied to enable cost or time savings, or to improve access to her services from remote areas.

During her face-to-face sessions, Kathryn employs her expertise in exercise therapy, rehabilitation, massage, muscle stretching and joint mobilisation to promote improvements in her clients' physical activity, health, mobility, function and safety.

Kathryn respects the close relationship between physical and mental health, and endeavours to listen to, understand and support each person's unique history, circumstances and preferences. Kathryn is known for her compassion, advocacy and attention to detail. For these reasons, both her home visits and telehealth sessions can be highly effective.

Until April 2022, Kathryn worked as the primary Permanent Part-time Physiotherapist and was contracted as a Research Assistant for the Metabolic Rehabilitation Program and Bariatric Surgical Program at Camden Hospital (Macarthur Health Service, South Western Sydney Local Health District) in liaison with Western Sydney University. The programs contributed to patients' weight loss and health through exercise therapy, nutritional guidance, psychological support, medical monitoring, and a multidisciplinary team-based approach.

Kathryn has also completed Research Assistant contracts with the University of Sydney to pursue her interest in investigating the efficacy of exercise for the treatment of chronic metabolic and respiratory health conditions such as diabetes, obesity and COPD, as well as endocrine conditions of the pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands. From 2015 to 2017 Kathryn engaged in a Master of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) that was exploring the perceived benefits of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) for people living with Early Onset Type Two Diabetes.

Kathryn's prior clinical positions included a role as Consultant Physiotherapist to the School Therapy Team for Students with a Physical Disability at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, as well as leadership in the Orthopaedic wards of StGeorge Public Hospital. She has also worked and engaged in placements in the areas of women's health, paediatrics, cardiac surgery and care, stroke rehabilitation, high dependency and intensive care, musculoskeletal outpatients and community home services, across a number of metropolitan Sydney and rural NSW public hospitals.

Kathryn continues to enjoy updating her skills, knowledge and awareness by connecting with colleagues, reading current research papers and professional literature, and attending online and in-person learning opportunities.

This year, Kathryn's business, HealthArt Mobile Physiotherapy, was honoured with a Finalist nomination in the category of Outstanding Physiotherapist in the 2024 Georges River Local Business Awards.
